Pertusaria wulfenioides B. de Lesd.
Wulfen's Pore Lichen

Family: Pertusariaceae

Pertusaria wulfenioides is a crustose lichen that grows on wood. We found it on two downed Ponderosa Pine trunks (and branches from the trunks) from which the bark had been stripped (lignicolous). The thallus of P. wulfenioides is yellow-green-gray and wrinkled. Many fertile warts (verrucae) are usually found with several dark apothecia per wart. There usually are 4 spores per ascus. The spores are large and thick-walled. The cortex is C+ yellow, and the medulla is K+ red. The photobiont is Trebouxia.
