Hypnum pallescens (Hedw.) P. Beauv.
Jochenia pallescens is the name now applied to Hypnum pallescens. It is very similar to Roaldia revoluta. However, Jochenia pallescens has leaves that are spreading rather than downturned, serrulate at the margin, commonly fruiting and is more commonly found growing on wood. The stem central strand is weak and there is no hyalodermis. We first photographed a specimen from the Sacramento Mountains-- those pix can be found here.
