Flavoparmelia baltimorensis (Gyeln. & Fóriss) Hale
Rock Greenshield Lichen
Family: Parmeliaceae
Flavoparmelia baltimorensis is a light yellow-green foliose lichen of moderate size that grows on rock. The undersurface is black except for the margin which is brown. F. baltimorensis appears to have abundant isidia, but these vegetative propagules are formed by scaling off of the upper layers of the thallus with cortex and photobiont and are considered "schizidia". Apothecia are rare. The older parts of the thallus are wrinkled. The photobiont is Trebouxia. The thallus is negative in KOH, but the cortex is golden in KOH followed by hypochlorite.
